WALTER HESKETH 15TH JUNE 2007, MANCHESTER
WALTER HESKETH IS ONE OF THE NICEST MEN YOU COULD HOPE TO MEET. HE WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN BY HIS
FAMILY AND FRIENDS. HE WAS A GENTLEMAN, A KIND THOUGHTFUL PERSON. HE HAD A WONDERFUL SENSE OF
HUMOUR AND A GREAT LAUGH. I COULD ALWAYS DEPEND ON HIM AND HE NEVER LET ME DOWN. WHEN I WAS A CHILD
HE SAID THAT TO ME, THAT I COULD ALWAYS RELY ON HIM AND HE WAS TRUE TO HIS WORD. HE WAS MARRIED TO
MARGARET AND HAD THREE CHILDREN, CAROL, CHRIS AND MARK. HE ALSO HAD NINE GRAND CHILDREN AND TWO
GREAT GRAND CHILDREN. HE WAS ADORED BY US ALL. HE ALSO HAD A BROTHER AND SISTER.
MY DAD IS THE BEST DAD IN THE WORLD AND WE ALL LOVE AND MISS HIM SO VERY MUCH. HE IS IN OUR THOUGHTS
AND HEARTS CONSTANTLY AND ALWAYS WILL BE.
HOW DO YOU THANK SOMEONE FOR LOVE BEYOND WORDS? FOR LOVING US? FOR SUPPORTING US AND FOR ALWAYS
BEING THERE WHEN WE NEEDED HIM? THAT IS MY DAD. HE ALWAYS LOVED US VERY MUCH AND WE LOVED HIM IN
RETURN.I ADORE HIM AND WILL ALWAYS BE A DADDY'S GIRL.
WALTER HESKETH WAS AN EXTREMELY POPULAR AND ACCOMPLISHED ATHLETE WHO ACHIEVED GREAT SUCCESS IN THE
1950'S,BECOMING THE BRITISH RECORD HOLDER FOR 6 MILES, THE FIRST MAN TO WIN THE NATIONAL CROSS
COUNTRY TITLE AT EVERY AGE GROUP AND TO REPRESENT THE GREAT BRITISH ATHLETICS TEAM ON NUMEROUS
OCCASIONS.
HE WAS PREVIOUSLY A MEMBER OF MANCHESTER HARRIERS AND LATER GOT INVOLVED WITH COACHING AT STOCKPORT
HARRIERS; WHERE HE SUCCESSFULLY NURTURED A NUMBER OF ATHLETES WHO WENT ON TO ACHIEVE NATIONAL
RECOGNITION.
MY DAD BEGAN RUNNING AT THE AGE OF FOURTEEN AND REGULARLY BEAT RUNNERS WHO WERE OLDER THAN HIM. HE
WAS A LONG DISTANCE AND CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER. HE BEAT THE FIVE MILE RECORD THAT HAD STOOD FOR FORTY
YEARS. HE WON MANY RACES, AND WAS CONSIDERED ONE OF THE FINEST RUNNERS OF HIS GENERATION.
HE USED TO RUN WITH GORDON PIRIE AND ROGER BANNISTER, FRANK SANDO, GEOFF SAUNDERS AMONG MANY
OTHERS.HE WON MANY TROPHIES AND WE HAVE FILES OF NEWSPAPER CUTTINGS OF HIS RUNNING CAREER.HE IS
MENTIONED IN ROGER BANNISTER'S BOOK, THE FOUR MINUTE MILE AND ALSO IN MANY OTHERS.HIS NAME IS IN THE
HISTORY BOOKS FOREVER, AS ONE OF THIS COUNTRY'S GREATEST RUNNERS OF THE LATE 1940'S AND 1950'S.
HE WAS KIND TO ANIMALS. ANIMAL WELFARE WAS A PASSION OF MY DAD'S AND THE NEIGHBOURS ALWAYS BROUGHT
STRAYS OR INJURED ANIMALS TO MY DAD, WHO LOOKED AFTER THEM. WE HAD MANY PETS OVER THE YEARS,
INCLUDING DOGS, LASSIE AND BESS AND A CAT CALLED MOGGY. HE HAD ONE DOG IN PARTICULAR CALLED ROSSIE
THAT HE LOVED VERY MUCH AND I HOPE THEY ARE TOGETHER IN HEAVEN.
I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A DADDY'S GIRL AND THAT WILL NEVER CHANGE. HE IS THE BEST FATHER ANYONE COULD
EVER HAVE AND I AM SO VERY LUCKY TO HAVE HIM AS MY DAD. I WANT TO THANK YOU DAD FOR LOVING ME, FOR
BEING THE FANTASTIC CARING MAN THAT YOU ARE. I KNOW YOU HAVE NOT LEFT ME. YOU ARE CLOSE BY, JUST OUT
OF SIGHT AND ONE DAY WE WILL BE REUNITED.
HE WAS ALWAYS A STAR IN HIS LIFE AND I AM SURE HE IS A STAR NOW IN HEAVEN. THE BRIGHTEST STAR,
SHINING IN THE SKY.
I LOVE YOU DAD, SO VERY MUCH. YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THE MOST LOVED PERSON IN MY LIFE.
Dad
I cannot believe that it is two years and five months today since you went to join your beloved Rossie. How have we lived without you? How can it be possible? I don't know.
It is really hard to go on without you. Without your physical prescence in my life,my life feels empty.
I know your spirit is around me and that you come to be with me but Dad,I find it so hard. So very hard. I don't know how you coped when you lost your parents. I don't know how people get over this tremendous loss. I don't think they do,they never get over it. In time I think they must just learn to live with it and wait to join you, which is what I am doing.
I love you and if I could do anything to bring you back home I would. You will always be my wonderful Dad and the kid's Bampi and we will all always love and talk about you. You have always been my star. Love always, Carol xxxxxx
Dad
A Dad's love for his daughter is strong as steel and as soft as a snowflake.
Thank you Dad
Love forever Carol xxxxxxxx
Next to you
You cannot see or touch me
But I am standing next to you
Your tears can only hurt me
Your sadness makes me blue.
Be brave and show a smiling face
Let not your grief show through
I love you from a different place
Yet I am standing next to you.
Hope you are next to me always, love you Dad, Carol xxxxxx
Time and distance cannot separate us. You are the certainty that makes all uncertainty bearable.
I know you are here, quiet and kind, ready to help if I fall or falter.
Thank you Dad, love always, Carol xxxxx
In my dreams
When I think back on these times and the dreams we left behind, I'll be glad cos I was blessed to get to have you in my life.
When I look back on these days I'll look and see your face, you were right there for me.
In my dreams l'll always see you soar above the sky , in my heart there will always be a place for you, for all my life.
I'll keep a part of you with me and everywhere I am there you'll be. And everywhere I am there you 'll be.
Will you show me how it feels to have the sky within your reach. Cos I always saw in you my light,my strength and I want to thank you now for all the ways you were there for me.
And everywhere I am there you'll be.
Love of my life.
My father would pick me up and hold me high in the air.
He dominated my life as long as he lived, and is the love of my life.
There is not a day goes by when you are not thought of with love and a great longing to have you back with us. We will be together again one day Dad, in the blink of an eye, as you say.
Love and hugs, kisses and cuddles always to the best Dad in the world, Carol xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Always a face before me
There is always a face before me
A voice I would love to hear
A smile I will always remember
Of my Dad,who I loved so dear.
We cannot bring the old times back
When we were all together
But those we love don't go away
They walk with us forever.
All the love in the world to forever. Love you Dad xxxxxx
Those we love
Thosw we love don't go away
They walk beside us every day
Unseen unheard but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.
Love you always and forever my lovely, kind Dad. I miss you more than words can say. You are always in my heart and soul. I am I and you are you, whatever we were to each other, that we still are, and will always be.
Love and hugs, kisses and cuddles to my best man and Dad ,Carol xxxxx
Dad's love
Dad's love,
Warmth on a winter's day,
Gentle when times are hard,
Funny when I feel down,
Firm when I'm being ghastly,
Everything I ever need.
I love you Dad,you are always carried in my heart. Love always, Carol xxxx
You showed me the stars
You carried me high on your shoulders. You showed me the wide world. You showed me the stars.
Thank you for the joys you crafted out of love, the small adventures we had together, the companionship and love we share.
You gave me, give me roots - in honesty, in courage and in hope.
You make me go on believing in kindness, gentleness, concern when all the world seems mad.
For all these reasons and a million more, thank you Dad. I love you beyond measure. Love forever, Carol xxxxxx
